About
Plot twist: This wedding officiant has officiated his final “I do.” After years of guiding couples through their big day, I’ve decided to embark on my own new adventure—retirement. While I’m no longer taking bookings, I’m leaving behind a trail of happily-ever-afters and a severe shortage of tissues at Ottawa venues. To all the wonderful couples I’ve had the privilege of marrying: may your love stories continue to be as epic as the celebrations we crafted together!
Scott Rothwell - Retired Ottawa Wedding Officiant
A lawyer by profession, I chose to moonlight as a wedding officiant—because nothing says ‘fun career shift’ like juggling legal briefs and bridal veils. My background in amateur acting and improv comedy came in handy, especially when autocorrect changed “lawfully wedded” to “awfully bedded” mid-ceremony. I was a proudly licensed officiant by the Province of Ontario and sponsored by the Humanist Association of Canada, serving the greater Ottawa region with a secular twist. As a Humanist Officiant, I provided non-religious wedding services and other ceremonies, including same-sex weddings—because love is love. No religious elements were included, but a healthy dose of humor was always complementary.
